Once known as the "Wall Street of the Southwest," The Strand is Galveston's historic downtown district, lined with beautifully preserved Victorian-era buildings. Today it's home to boutiques, galleries, sweet shops, restaurants and lively bars.
Spend an afternoon browsing antiques and local shops, stop for fudge and ice cream, and find a patio for dinner as the street lights come on. The Strand also hosts some of Galveston's biggest celebrations, including Mardi Gras and Dickens on The Strand.
It's one of the most romantic parts of the island to explore on foot, especially in the evening.
